Types of work permits in the Czech Republic

Employee card

The employee card is a type of residence permit available in the Czech Republic for non-EU citizens who have been offered employment in the country. The card combines both the work permit and the residence permit into one document, making it easier for employees to live and work legally in the Czech Republic. To be eligible for the employee card, applicants must have a job offer from a Czech employer and meet certain requirements. The employer must also demonstrate that they were unable to fill the position with a Czech or EU citizen before hiring a non-EU citizen. The employee card is valid for a period of up to two years, with the possibility of renewal. It allows the holder to work for the specific employer stated on the card and to reside in the Czech Republic for the duration of the card's validity. After five years of legal residence in the Czech Republic, employee card holders may apply for permanent residence and after ten years apply for citizenship.
